Addis Ababa - Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has officially announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened to commercial shipping. The decision comes following a recently declared 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

The reopening of this vital maritime passage, which plays a major role in global oil transportation, has been widely welcomed at the international level and is seen as a step toward easing global economic tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz is recognized as one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, with a significant portion of global oil trade passing through it. Its closure in recent weeks had placed strong pressure on global oil prices and energy markets.

As a result, the reopening is expected to stabilize supply chains and immediately ease price volatility. Analysts note that the impact extends beyond oil markets, influencing transportation costs, industrial production, and the prices of goods worldwide.

On the diplomatic front, messages from Donald Trump on Truth Social reportedly welcomed the move as a positive development.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom and France, along with several other countries, were engaged in discussions aimed at ensuring maritime freedom in the region. These developments suggest that the decision is closely linked to ongoing international diplomatic efforts.

Reports also indicate that people in Beirut have been celebrating the ceasefire agreement, reflecting a sense of relief in the region. Previously, Iran had closed the strait for weeks in response to military tensions involving the United States and Israel.

The reopening is now widely viewed as a potential turning point that could lead to greater regional stability and reduced geopolitical pressure on global energy markets.
