Addis Abeba — The private recording studio of prominent Ethiopian artist Teddy Afro was reportedly looted late Thursday night in the CMC area of the capital, raising fresh concerns over the security of high-profile creatives and their intellectual property.

Sources close to the artist told Deutsche Welle that a group of armed assailants arrived in a vehicle and forcibly entered the premises after assaulting on-site security personnel. The attackers allegedly broke into the studio and made away with music production equipment and other valuables essential to the artist’s work.

The incident is said to have occurred around 9:00 PM local time. While the full extent of the damages remains unclear, insiders indicate that the studio housed a substantial collection of unreleased musical projects, heightening concerns over potential intellectual property loss.

The artist, known for maintaining a rigorous schedule of composition and studio work, is also reported to collaborate extensively with other musicians, often contributing lyrics and arrangements. It remains uncertain whether any unreleased material was compromised during the robbery.

Despite reports of prior disturbances and pressure in the vicinity since before the release of his latest album, the artist is confirmed to be safe and unharmed.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts to obtain comments from law enforcement officials were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

The robbery underscores growing anxieties over urban security and the vulnerability of creative industries, particularly as digital and physical assets become increasingly central to artistic production and commercial success.
